2023, Journal of Housing EconomicsCitation Excerpt :Driven by past literature that assesses ‘tipping points’ in segregation, we examine the possibility that the gradient of neighborhood quality matters in discrimination. Card et al. (2008), Page (1995), and Yinger (1986) all find that White residents disproportionately move out of a neighborhood when the share of White residents is 20% or less. Hanson and Hawley (2011) finds that discrimination may increase at this ‘tipping point.’
